Summer Skin Care Protection Tips from Dr. F. Victor Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology

Sensible precautions can prevent summer skin care issues

shutterstock 188183420As April showers are set to bring May flowers, summer is just around the corner. Summer means a lot of different things to people. For children, it means a welcome respite from school and the ability to play all day and night. Parents often lament the coming of summer as they will have to find supervision for their children or watch the little tykes themselves. Summer also means trips to the beach, backyard cookouts, fireworks on the Fourth of July, and even perhaps going on the family vacation. While summer is definitely considered the fun season, it can also be treacherous when it comes to one's skin. The sun's rays may be life-giving, but they can also be punishing to one's skin. Experienced dermatologists, such as Dr. F. Victor Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas, help their patients to protect themselves by offering some skin care protection tips to safely navigate them through the summer season.

Winter Can be Abusive to Skin, But Dr. F. Victor Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology Has Helpful Skincare Suggestions

Winter can be exceptionally harsh on one's skin For many people, winter can be a magical time of the year as the landscape becomes coated in a crisp layer of festive snow. Winter is a time where people slow their pace down, enjoy some hot chocolate or cider by a picturesque fire, and engage in seasonal activities like skiing and building snowmen. Most individuals turn their attention to indoor pursuits due to the inclement weather and the fact that the average amount of daylight during winter is under twelve hours. (1) While the most consideration that one normally gives to the winter months is how cold it may get, experienced dermatologists, such as Dr. F. Victor Rueckl of Lakes Dermatology in Las Vegas, warn that winter can be exceptionally rough on a person's skin. Fortunately, there are proven methods to protect one's skin during this frigid season.

Restylane Silk

Lakes Dermatology is one of the only offices in Nevada to offer this new FDA-approved dermal filler treatment

One of the most important factors in maintaining a healthy, youthful appearance is to have a brilliant smile. A nice smile can light up someone's face with a healthy glow and put others at ease. When people converse with one another, their eyes are automatically drawn to the mouths of other people as they talk. That is why so many people are self-conscious about the quality of their smiles. When one thinks of ways to improve a smile, the initial thought is always dentistry. In fact, a whopping 87% of those who had a cosmetic dentistry procedure performed did so in order to improve their physical attractiveness as well as their self-esteem. (1) However, there are other ways to improve a smile, such as smoothing out the wrinkles and lines around the mouth that naturally occur as a person ages. A newly approved product, Restylane Silk, is now hitting the market and was specifically designed for subtle lip enhancement for patients that are over 21 years of age.

Restylane Lyft® - What Is It and How Will It Work?

Galderma announced the FDA approval of Restylane® Lyft for cheek augmentation and the correction of age-related midface contour deficiencies late last week. So what is this exciting new product? Well......it’s basically Perlane®, which has been available for years, but rebranded. Perlane® is a hyaluronic acid filler that was used mainly in the nasolabial fold areas, but was also used in the central face area for adding volume to the cheeks. It is a thicker HA filler than its sister product, Restylane®.

Importance of Home Care Products

We constantly stress the importance of homecare products along with in-office procedures. And not only that, but the right homecare products are key. One of the reasons is because it allows your skin to react better to treatments because the homecare products have enabled the treatments to continue working longer and/or better. Plus, since you are investing money in in-office procedures, the best thing you can do it help maintain and build the results with proper homecare.

Is A New Neurotoxin Coming Soon?

EVOSYAL to begin clinical trials.

Evolus, a division of ALPHAEON has put in a new neurotoxin called EVOSYAL for study with the FDA. This is a neurotoxin (like Botox, Dysport, and Xeomin that are currently available). However, this new neurotoxin has the potential to last longer, should its FDA trial prove its safety and efficacy. The clinical study is just beginning and will most likely take a few years to complete. However, a new, longer-lasting neurotoxin could be available in years to come!

What Is Resveratrol and How Does It Work?

Resveratrol is an antioxidant that most famous for being in red wine. However, it can also be applied topically in skincare products and aids in treatment of skin aging. The most important thing about Resveratrol in terms of skincare products is that the ingredient must be stabilized properly. If not, it simply doesn't work, or worse, could actually harm the skin. Many "cheaper" versions of skincare products, or products people try to make at home, simply don't have proper stabilization of ingredients. This means, the product may work once or twice, but as the bottle is being used, the efficacy is going down dramatically. That's why expensive products are expensive - there are reasons to stabilize ingredients - efficacy and safety!
